This writing shall be an open letter to The Mental Militia, as well as an announcement of a personal “Psy-Op” which is intended to put a polite and peaceful “dent” in the armor of the burgeoning totalitarian military-police state which has grown up on the back of the “War on Drugs”.

My project is entitled “Silver Seeds of Liberty”.  The deepest root of which runs back into the mid-1970s.

In the 1970s I was a free-lance jeweler in the anti-war psychedelic underground peace, love, and marijuana counter culture.  An artist, a beatnik, a gentle and grateful man, a lover of Nature and all the manifest forms of life in the natural world, I was also a “seeker”.  I had, in my opinion, every right to be a voice for peace, an “anti-establishment” free-thinker, as I had recently returned to America as an honorably discharged U.S. Marine veteran of the Viet Nam war.  My time at war was much more impactful than I would know for many years afterward, but I did know in the 1970s that I would never outlive some of the emotional and mental damage I had internalized while serving (as I erroneously and gullibly believed at the time) my country.

I was possessed of a sense that I was a “free American citizen”, and that as such I had Constitutionally protected authority to be a self-owner. I knew that I was the responsible owner of my body. I also sensed that I had every right to own my mind, to choose the content of my mind. I naturally understood that it was my personal responsibility to know and regulate the structure and nature of my mental states, and to explore my psyche to discover more about myself. I was learning about “levels” of consciousness, the vibratory planes of existence, my own mental states, subtle subconscious influences on my conscious perceptions, dream-states, moods, inspirations, instincts, emotions, and the metaphysical properties of “Thought”, etc. Marijuana was my companion, my “battle buddy”,  on that journey.

Having learned to cast gold into Dental crowns and bridges for Dentists prior to joining the U.S. Marines (1965),  but a bit too shattered inside myself to commit to a lifetime career as a Dental Technician, I morphed my casting skills into creative jewelry making.

By the mid-1970s I was moving almost full time into jewelry design work, and I loved it.

And that is what I was up to when it dawned on me that I could modify the “Lost-Wax Casting” system, which lab technicians and jewelers traditionally used, in certain ways which would allow me to actually cast marijuana seeds into solid sterling silver.  Giving my new idea a try, I found that it worked just fine, once proper adjustments to the technique of lost-wax casting were made.  I began to place marijuana seeds on sterling silver pinky rings for the “hippy chicks” in the underground counter-culture.  Ultimately, I created a three-seed casting in silver which was a master model. I then vulcanized that model into a permanent injectable mold.

Well, that was “then”, and this is “now”. Having spent the past twenty years, observing the political, economic, ecclesiastical, philosophical, spiritual and creative aspects of America’s collective consciousness; and having laid that as a template over the peak events of the ten decades comprising the 20th Century; and tempering both with some history of Art, a little occult mythology (such as Dr. Jung’s writings on Alchemy), tribal lore and cultural variances of many sorts — I notice today that, as Bob Dylan prophesied half a Century ago, “The Times They Are A Changin’”.

In building my casting shop at my cabin here in northwest Montana, I came across that old master model of the three original pot seeds which I had long ago transmuted from vegetable kingdom into mineral kingdom, i.e., notably, from seeds into Sterling Silver. I have begun casting wax models taken from that old original master model mold, and am using them as design features in an exciting line of quality earrings.

All “Silver Seeds” are cast by torch into solid sterling silver from my own original mold.

The idea for this line of jewelry began way back when as I was putting silver pot seeds on sterling silver pinky rings for the “hippy chicks” in the golden underground psychedelic counter-culture of the anti-war movement – the peace, love, and pot culture. I sold a lot of pot seed pinky rings back then, and am looking forward to a larger market now with this new line. Times certainly have changed, as State after State is legalizing marijuana.

Hence the method in my motive. The government has no authority over anyone’s body. That power is not enumerated, granted, defined, listed, or given in any other way. Plainly stated, there exists no such authority in the Constitution. But as all readers at The Mental Militia already know, our modern government cares very little about its Constitutional limits. The so-called War on Drugs is immoral and totally un-Constitutional and is in fact a criminal act of violent aggression against peaceful citizens of the several states as well as against the document which created the federal government. On average, approximately 700,000 Americans are arrested for smoking or ingesting a natural plant each year in America.

Americans who use marijuana but fear being busted by the cops for that peaceful personal activity are ready to learn the fine points about that Constitution, which is designed to protect their “Unalienable Rights”, which include the right to full self-ownership.
